In addition to our beautiful facility, each horse at Starwood has a customized program built around its individual needs.  Our barn manager and co-owner, Sarah Short, works with each client to ensure that their horse(s) are receiving exactly what they need, rather than forcing the horse into a standard program.  Some of the highlights of what we can provide:

Feed/Hay:  We can provide almost any grain that your horse needs.  Currently, we have horses on Triple Crown, Manna Pro, Progressive Nutrition and Purina products.  We include up to fours feeding daily (morning, lunch, dinner, later evening), as your horse requires.  Included in our board package is a weekly bran mash, with electrolytes and mineral oil.  We also follow a veterinarian-developed desanding program and this is included as well.  During cold winter months, or when turnout is limited due to summer storms, we will provide additional bran mashes as part of a comprehensive colic prevention program.  We feed timothy/alfalfa hay three-four times daily and can get other types upon request.

Deworming:  To ensure healthy, parasite-free pasture for all of our horses, we require that each horse be on a rotational deworming schedule.   We will provide this deworming for you at a small additional cost, or you can deworm your horse yourself on a rotational schedule.

Supplements:  Client-provided supplements and medications are administered at no charge.  Starwood Sporthorses is part of the SmartPak "Barn Buddy" program - which entitles our clients to free shipping and free embroidery on all items shipped to our barn.  We also offer daily electrolytes for a small additional charge.

Turnout:  We offer daytime or nighttime turnout.  All turnout is individual unless you have two or more horses and specifically request group turnout.  As we live on property, you can be comfortable in the knowledge that we do not leave horses out in inclement weather and are here to bring horses in should lightning or other dangerous weather arrive unexpectedly.

Grooming/Bathing/Clipping:  All horses are rinsed off (as needed) when coming in from turnout, especially during the hot summer months.  All horses are fly sprayed prior to turnout and we will put on fly sheets/flymasks/turnout boots as desired.  Should you want your horse groomed, bathed, trimmed, or bodyclipped, we can provide these services at an additional charge.

Vet/Farrier Care:  We believe that our vets and farriers are an integral part of our team here at Starwood.  If you cannot be present, we will attend to your horse's veterinary and farrier appointments.   If you are new to the area and do not have a local vet or farrier, we will help you select from one of our area's excellent professionals. We are also able to transport your horse to East Coast Animal Medical and Surgery center, should that be required in an emergency situation.

Medical Care:    We will provide basic medical care as part of our full service board, including wound care, short-term bandaging, colic care (night watch), IM/IV shots (upon owner's approval and vet directives), etc. at no additional charge.  If your horse requires an extensive rehabilitation program, or has special needs, we will work with you to create a monthly plan to take care of them.  We are extremely familiar with aging and special needs horses and can provide them with the love and attention that they deserve.

Retirement/Absentee Owner Packages:  For those clients who can't always be at the farm on a regular basis, or who want their aging horse to spend their retirement years in a full care setting, we will work with you to add additional services on a monthly basis, including bathing/grooming, clipping and trimming, and riding/hacking.

Riding/Hacking/Training/Lessons:  We can arrange these services for you as part of your monthly board - please see our Lessons and Training page for details.  If you are already working with a trainer, they are always welcome at Starwood Sporthorses with proof of liability insurance.
